Visiting Our Parish
Visitors are warmly welcome to attend our services. Our worship is conducted in English and includes standing prayer, chanting, incense, icons, and ancient Christian Liturgy preserved through the centuries.
What to Expect
Orthodox Christian worship is ancient, reverent, and centred on prayer. Our services include chanting, incense, icons, candles, and readings from Holy Scripture. Much of what you’ll see and hear has been handed down through the life of the Church for centuries, so it may feel quite different from other Christian services you’ve attended.
You don’t need to be Orthodox to visit. You’re very welcome to come, stand quietly, listen, pray as you’re able, and simply take in the service. There’s no pressure to know exactly what to do.
Most of the service is sung or chanted rather than spoken, and at first it can feel unfamiliar. That’s completely okay. Many people’s first experience of Orthodox worship is simply being present and letting the prayers of the Church wash over them. Come respectfully, observe as you feel comfortable, and feel free to speak with Father Paul or one of our parishioners afterwards if you’ve got any questions.
Our Parish Gathering
Sts Cyprian & Justina Orthodox Church currently gathers for services in a private chapel outside central Auckland. Because the chapel is on private property, we ask visitors to get in touch before attending so we can confirm the service time and send through directions.
As our parish continues to grow, we’ll also be exploring options for services in more accessible locations within Auckland.
Planning Your Visit
Please get in touch with us before visiting so we can confirm service times and send you directions.
Visitors are very welcome to attend, pray as they’re able, and observe the service respectfully. Our services are conducted in English unless otherwise noted. There’s no pressure to know exactly what to do, especially if it’s your first time.
As a sign of reverence in church, modest dress is appreciated. Men are asked to wear long trousers. Women are asked to wear a skirt or dress, with shoulders and knees covered, and to wear a head covering.
If you’ve got any questions before visiting, we’d be very glad to help. For more practical details, you can also read through our
Frequently Asked Questions page.
